character :: Genesis Carr

'When we're young, we have this idea, this picture in our mind of what we're going to be like when we grow up, the kind of person we're going to be and I can tell you right now, that picture of perfection that we have? It's all bullshit. I didn't turn out anything like I thought..and I'm proud of that.'

There was one thing the Carr's didn't want in their family and that was a son: too bad for them, they ended up with three. Genesis Carr was one of three boys who was born to multi-pageant winning beauty queen and a wealthy plastic surgeon that only cared about one thing: looks and unfortunately for them, the boys didn't have it but that didn't stop their mother from trying. Intense diets, strict fashion rules and repeated pushes towards cosmetic surgery to make themselves more 'suitable' for the pageant life - this is the life they grew up in. But because of his warped mother's push for femininity and beauty, Genesis grew up with a low self-esteem that he struggled with throughout his childhood and doubt about his own gender. Soon enough, his mother's words had gotten through and the boys were able to compete in pageants for little girls all across the United States. But even winning wasn't good enough.

Following the tragic, and suspicious, death of his younger brother and attack on himself that ultimately left him scarred, Genesis was finally able to walk away from the pageant life and regain her life without living under her parent's thumb. She changed her clothes, dyed her hair and ultimately, got a job as a tattoo artist, leaving her past behind her...until a trouble-making punk decided to dig it up again.

Although the journey is a difficult one, Genesis comes to the realization that it was his mother, not his gender, that made him unhappy and after years of soul searching, feels comfortable in his own skin to finally accept his gender. And with a beautiful son of his own, a rowdy adopted son reminiscent of an old punk Genesis used to know, two of the best little pet pigs in the world and a wonderful husband to think about, what else could Genesis possibly need?
