character :: Samuel

Only the strong will survive
So, you know, good luck

There had been reports on the local news: a strange new virus had come about, one with rabies-like symptoms but nothing to worry about, they swore and Samuel, a twenty something from California, had no reason not to believe them...though that didn't stop his father from 'prepping'. Test after physical test of swiftness, strength and defense became part of Samuel's life, day in and day out, with no explanation as to why they were necessary. All he would say was: "If something happens, you'll thank me, devil dog." And although Samuel hated to admit it, he was right.

Over the next six months, the shit hit the fan: the virus was something to worry about - it was spreading wildly and highly contagious, even to seemingly healthy people. Twitching, seizures, blindness, fever and even rot became the defining symptoms as the CDC began trying to quarantine the individuals but their numbers grew too quickly and the CDC was overwhelmed. FEMA tried their hand as well, dropping off food and supplies to families that couldn't venture out of their homes but as resources dwindled, so did people's patience and after several riots, they, too, stopped coming. Before long, people were in a full blown panic - those that ventured outside were attacked and killed by large hoards of zombies while those that stayed inside their homes were protected for a little while until something, food, water, family, dared them to leave their shelter and they, too, suffered the same fate.

Samuel's father, Mathew, was quick to volunteer his services, traveling to Washington D.C. to gather with the rest of the military in hopes that the United States could be restored to it's former glory but after several weeks and no communication, there was only one other option. Samuel's mother, Carolina, was the next to leave in search of her husband, instructing her son to stay indoors no matter what happened or what he heard outside but as days turned into weeks with no contact from either of them, Samuel knew he was on his own.

Crowbar in hand, skin covered by anything he could find, Samuel stepped outside and right into the chaos. He battled down streets searching for something, though he wasn't sure what - survivors? His own family? The military? But instead, what he got was bound and gagged. Samuel is taken to a place called 'The Colony', a Wal-Mart built by a fiery red-headed leader named Heidi, that has been converted into a safe haven for survivors and well-stocked against what Samuel knew would be a long haul. Once he passes the initial check, Samuel joins the group in their fight, becoming a part of the 'Omega' team, a melee, face-to-face combat should the zombies pierce their concrete walls. Their mission is simple: survive and outlast the zombie. Now there's only one question on Samuel's mind...

How long could this outbreak possibly last?
