character :: Josue Núnez

Josue is from Bocaina, Piau in Brazil - the last of a long, long line of fishermen. His family opted to keep to themselves during most of his childhood, but Josue didn't quite mind! As long as he had his father, their small fishing boat, and plenty of time before dawn to get ready for the water, Josue is content. This young man is a family man through and through, all four of his grandparents crammed into his childhood home along with his mother and father. Again, Josue valued these people, and spent ample time learning the wisdom that his elders could teach him.

Josue finds himself in the midst of chaos as his home is overgrown by plants he can't quite describe. He pulls his family from the grasp of the plants [literally carrying his frail grandmother on his back], leaving behind his home and all of the fishing gear his family had spent generations collecting. Josue faces the biggest loss of his life as, one by one, his family falls victim to the overgrowth. By the time he makes it to Sao Paulo, his father [and last remaining relative] is beginning to Sprout. At the gates of the survival camp, Josue is forced to watch the last of what he had fall away as his father becomes rooted along the path. Afterward, Josue is welcomed into the camp with open arms [on the condition that he can fish enough Haddock to keep them all fed], and he begins the task of rebuilding his life.
